Video: High-Performance Hard Turning

Machine shops involved in turning hard parts will be interested in learning about these new inserts that were specially designed for this particular operation.

The new CB7105 and CB7115 grade inserts from Sandvik Coromant have been specially designed for hard part turning. Benefits of the CB7105 include lower cost per part through high speed machining or longer tool life at lower speed, while the CB7115 achieves that same goal when aiming for a one-cut strategy at high speed, the company says.

The CB7105 should be used for continuous cut, smaller depth of cut and smaller chip loads at high speed, and the CB7115 for continuous to light interrupted cut or large chip loads at medium to high speed. New generation cubic boron nitride materials enhance crater wear resistance and fracture resistance at high cutting speed in case-hardened and induction-hardened materials, and a TiN-PVD coating for excellent surface finish also helps identify used cutting edges.
