Gardner Business Media Inc. (GBM) has named Bryce Ellis vice president of Metalworking Media, a media group which includes the Modern Machine Shop and Production Machining brands. Ellis has successfully directed Modern Machine Shop’s business activities since 2019 and will now incorporate Production Machining into his role, leading both brands into the future.

The synergy between these two media products enables Gardner to expand its impact on delivering timely and accurate news, information and resources to the discreet parts manufacturing community, the company says.

SMW Autoblok Acquires Tecnomagnete — SMW Autoblok Group has acquired Tecnomagnete, a manufacturer of permanent electromagnetic clamping and lifting systems. Founded in 1974, Tecnomagnete invented the use of these types of magnetic systems to perfect a new way of holding and lifting parts, and create a virtually fail-safe manufacturing environment.

Big Kaiser Changing Name to Big Daishowa — Big Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. is changing its name to Big Daishowa Inc., effective Jan. 1, 2022.  “Big Daishowa is a global leader of tooling systems, and we have been a member of the Big Daishowa group of companies for many years,” says Jack Burley, President and COO. “The name change is a natural evolution in this relationship. Being known as Big Daishowa in North America will strengthen our corporate presence on a global scale.”

AMT Honors Mazak’s Brian Papke for Dedication to Industry — Brian Papke, former chairman and now executive advisor of the Mazak Corp. board, was recently recognized for his lifetime of dedication to the advancement of the manufacturing industry. Papke received the Al Moore Award from AMT -  The Association of Manufacturing Technology (AMT) during its recent MFG Meeting and MTForecast in Denver, Colorado.

Walter to Acquire Cutting Tools Manufacturer GWS Tool Group — Walter has signed an agreement to acquire the U.S.-based GWS Tool Group, a manufacturer of solid carbide endmills and drills as well as HSS taps and PCD products. GWS is focused on highly engineered customized cutting tools for the American market. The acquisition supports Walter’s growth strategy in North America.

Sandvik Acquiring ICAM Technologies — Sandvik has signed an agreement to acquire Canada-based ICAM Technologies Corp., a provider of solutions that translate CAM data into optimized coding for guiding CNC machining operations.
