Cutting Tools

Cutting tools used to remove material on parts produced on milling machines, lathes and other types of machining centers come in a range of types and styles. Examples include drills, taps, reamers and end mills as well as static square-shank “stick” tools for lathes. Some tools are solid, commonly made from carbide or high-speed steel and can often be reground when worn. Indexable insert tools use replaceable carbide, cermet or ceramic inserts that offer multiple cutting edges and attach to tool bodies via a screw. The tool bodies are not replaced and can remain installed in a machine. Custom form tools that create multiple features in one cutting operation are commonly used on high-volume turning equipment to increase feature accuracy and reduce the number of tools required for a job.
