Machine tools that can perform multiple functions — with an eye toward machining parts complete — are becoming the norm and not the exception. Applying automation to these platforms offers the advantage of long stretches of operation without operator intervention.
One example was shown at EMO 2023 in Hannover, Germany, with the three-spindle MC20III Multi Station Machining Cell from Marubeni Citizen-Cincom. The machine itself essentially combines three chucker lathes into a single machine unit. The company says offering three machining modules in a multi-station configuration presents the possibility to create various machining layouts for high-volume part production.
At EMO 2023 in Hannover, Germany, Marubeni Citizen-Cincom displayed an MC20III with custom automation designed and manufactured by Citizen Machinery UK. This not only included robotic part loading/unloading, but also in-process inspection and raw material/completed part pallet storage.
