Reshoring Initiative Releases 2021 Data Report — The Reshoring Initiative’s 2021 Data Report discusses reshoring and how the trend will continue to be key to U.S. manufacturing and economic recovery. In 2021, the private and federal push for domestic supply of essential goods propelled reshoring and foreign direct investment (FDI) job announcements to a record 261,000, bringing the total jobs announced to over 1.3 million since 2010. For the second year in a row, reshoring exceeded FDI by 100%, in contrast to 2014 through 2019, when FDI exceeded reshoring. Additionally, the number of companies reporting reshoring and FDI set a new record of over 1,800 companies.
MC Machinery Systems Names Tony Imbrogno CEO — MC Machinery Systems has promoted Tony Imbrogno to CEO. He is the first American CEO of the Mitsubishi Corp. subsidiary since its founding in 1978. Imbrogno earned a bachelor’s degree in electronic technology engineering from DeVry University in Chicago and completed the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management Finance for Executives program. He began his career at MC Machinery in 1986 as a field service engineer and went on to hold management and executive positions, including his most recent 7-year stint as senior vice president of operations, customer service and support.
Registration Open for 2022 Additive Manufacturing Conference — Registration is now open for the Additive Manufacturing Conference, which is scheduled for Sept. 14-15 and is co-located at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), at Chicago’s McCormick Place. As the first and only event focused exclusively on additive technologies for industrial part production, the conference takes a practical, applications-based look at the machines, materials and methodologies being used to create end-use tools and components.
United Grinding, Titans of CNC Launch Grinding Academy — United Grinding is collaborating with Titans of CNC — a manufacturing group of part-makers, influencers and educators — to launch a Grinding Academy. Much like Titans’ existing machining and aerospace academies, the Grinding Academy offers free online courses that teach and train the next generation of machinists, the group says. “We’re so excited to be teaming with Titans of CNC on their Grinding Academy,” says Paul Kössl, global head of marketing and business development at United Grinding Group. “The precision and quality made possible by CNC grinding is something that more manufacturers should know about. The academy will showcase all of that power and potential, while also teaching viewers how to harness it.”
CNC Engineering Integrates 3D Printing Solutions With CNC Machine Tools — CNC Engineering Inc. will now play a key role in the distribution, integration and support of the Meltio metal 3D additive manufacturing (AM) solutions for FANUC CNC and robotic systems in the U.S. market. According to CNC Engineering Inc., it specializes in the integration and support of FANUC CNC machine tool retrofits, Renishaw probe and laser systems, rotary tables and additional axes, FANUC Robots and now Meltio solutions.
MSC Industrial Supply Co. Acquires Engman-Taylor — MSC Industrial Supply Co. — a distributor of metalworking and maintenance, repair and operations supplies to industrial customers throughout North America — has acquired Engman-Taylor, a Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin-based distributor of metalworking tools and supplies. As part of the agreement, Engman-Taylor will continue to do business under its current name after becoming an MSC company. The company’s president and owner, Rick Star, will continue to lead the approximately 90-associate business.
