Ground Hog Daily
It seems to me our country has been through a lot since February, yet the disconnect I sense from our leaders remains constant, much like the movie.
In case you missed it, I wrote my February PM column about the apparent time warp in our nation’s capital that is reminiscent of Bill Murry’s movie “Groundhog Day.” Now the reason I’m bringing this to your attention again is that while the topic was timely in February—fiscal cliff, debt ceiling, and other government by crisis were topical—here we are in April, and it seems virtually nothing has changed.
Gun control, immigration, taxes are now the topics de jour, but the action, pro or con, remains the same—stalemate. It seems to me our country has been through a lot since February, yet the disconnect I sense from our leaders remains constant, much like the movie.
In my column I suggest some ways to break out of the time loop, but any suggestions presuppose an interest in changing “business as usual.” Increasingly, I am less enthusiastic. Check out “Let Our Voices Be Heard Again.”
