According to the company, hard turning is a solution to staying competitive. The site is intended to help educate the company’s customers about the benefits of this technology and assist them in maintaining a competitive edge in difficult economic times. The site, at www.hardinge.com/hardturn, is divided into six sections: Education, Techniques, Current Research, Examples, Why Hardinge and Frequently Asked Questions.

Sharing Sales. Toyoda Machine Works Ltd. (Kariya City, Japan) and Mitsui Seiki Kogyo Co, Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) have announced an agreement to cooperate in the manufacture and sales of machine tools. The purpose is to share limited management resources and promote further business development for both companies. The strategy is driven by the continuing trend toward global business relationships and the need to meet customer demands. Areas affected are the development of machine tools and related products as well as some manufacturing, sales, service and purchasing activities.

New Technical Center. ONA America recently opened a ‘new’ technical center on the Gosiger Campus in Dayton, Ohio. The century-old facility will serve as a sales, service, application, engineering and training center for the company’s North American customers. The facility was originally used by the Stoddard Motor Kit Company, which manufactured Maxwell automobiles.

Waste Not . . . Houghton International (Valley Forge, Pennsylvania) has a new waste treatment consulting service to help plants reduce waste treatment costs. The service is being offered because of a growing demand for reducing expenses associated with the treatment and disposal of industrial wastewater. Houghton will review a company’s existing metalworking operations, assess the plant’s metalworking processes and recommend the most cost-effective treatment method available to comply with sewer authority regulations. Systems range from conventional chemical, biological and ultrafiltration systems to recycling technology.

Fastening Seminar. Sensor Products Inc. and Clemson Edupro Inc. are holding “Fastening Technology & Bolted/Screwed Joint Design,” a 2-day technical seminar designed to give engineers and other technical personnel up-to-date specifications and a better understanding of mechanical joining with fasteners. Where In The World Is . . . ? A few companies have notified us of their new locations. Fastems USA recently opened a North American sales, service and distribution center in Dayton, Ohio. The company also recently appointed Mark Walker as president. Fastems is headquartered in Tampere, Finland, and owned by the Helvar Merca Company.

Gosiger, Inc. (Dayton, Ohio) has a new California office, Gosiger West. This location is the result of the company’s purchase of Joachim Machinery West LLC and Joachim Machinery, Indianapolis, Indiana. The new office will represent Okuma products and services in all of California and parts of Nevada.

Empire Distribution. The new Davenport Machine (Rochester, New York) has reappointed H&C Tool Supply (Rochester) as its authorized distributor for original equipment replacement parts on Davenport automatic screw machines.
