On June 11 and 12, Methods Machine Tools Inc. hosted Metal Storm 2014—an open house at the company’s recently expanded and renovated headquarters and corporate technology center in Sudbury, Mass. The event featured more than 50 machines under power.

Several Nakamura models were showcased, including the new AS-200 multitasking turning center, which features a single spindle, single turret in a heavy-duty and compact machine. This machine was also featured in a Methods lathe job shop cell, as was the Nakamura NTJX, for large parts.

New Feeler models that were on display and running included the FT-250SY 4-axis turning center (making its North American debut at the event) and the new SBM 2000 universal milling machine with an articulated head and integrated fourth axis.

Other machines new in the Methods line-up that were showcased at Metal Storm included Yasda’s H40i-PC24 5-axis machining center and the Yasda YBM 640V3 and YBM 950V 3-axis CNC vertical jig borers. A newly expanded line of Kiwa horizontal machining centers was also introduced, including the KMH series.

Numerous Fanuc D-Series RoboDrills were also under power, along with RoboCut EDM machines and a series of metrology solutions from Carl Zeiss and VisionGauge.

Both days also featured a full line-up of technical seminars covering topics in automotive, aerospace, and automation solutions, as well as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and CAMplete turn-mill technology.

Several Methods suppliers were also on hand to feature auxiliary equipment such as bar feeders, chip management systems, rotary tables, tool holders, workholding, tool monitoring, coolant, metrology, air filtration, and CAD/CAM systems.
