NexTurn SA-20B Swiss lathe

NexTurn SA-20B Swiss lathe

The NexTurn SA-20B Swiss lathe is a 20-mm machine with a rotary synchronous guide bushing that features up to seven axes (Z1, X1, Y, Z2, X2, C1, C2) and can accommodate 22 total tools. Machining capacity is 20 mm on the main and subspindle, with a 210 mm (8") maximum turning length. The SA-20B is available packaged with a 12' magazine bar feeder, providing overall value in a 20-mm Swiss machine.

The machine is built for accuracy, reliability and ease of use. Its highly rigid one-piece cast iron bed is designed using FEM software. Powerful motors for both turning and milling deliver more than ample machining capability, the company says. Precision pretensioned ballscrews and LM guides are said to provide high accuracy. High-speed positioning of 1,260"/min. reduces cycle times.

The machine’s spindles are the heart of the machine. The main spindle is a 5-hp, 8,000-rpm (optional 10,000 rpm) built-in motor spindle. The built-in motor is said to provide excellent acceleration/deceleration. The full C-axis on both main and subspindles with 0.001-degree position and pneumatic disc brake clamping provide high rigidity for milling operations. The synchronous subspindle enables simultaneous front working and backworking. Powerful live tools sporting 1.3 hp and 6,000 rpm on the cross-mill unit and 1 hp and 5,000 rpm on the backend face tools are said to provide excellent drilling and milling ability. A wide range of milling, drilling and tapping operations can be performed. ER-16 collets for the live tools provide high rigidity. Rigid tapping is standard.

The synchronous rotary guide bushing features a dual bearing structure with high accuracy. It has strong and accurate bearing support on both ends. The guide bushing is spline shaft driven and is necessary for precision machining of long parts. The machine can be ordered without the guide bushing for short parts, reduced remnant length and the ability to run cold drawn material.
