Unisig Gundrilling Production Cells Boost Precision, Output
Source: Unisig Deep Hole Drilling Systems
Unisig’s R-4-2-2 fully automated barrel cell provides continuous and synchronous production. The cell can reportedly gundrill four barrels at once, while two gundrilled barrels are precision reamed and two others receive the final step of button rifling at the same time.
In operation, the Unisig R-4-2-2 production cell uses a smart conveyor to simultaneously load four barrel blanks into a UNI four-spindle gundrilling machine. Drawing from a bulk feeder, this automated loading is the starting point for many hours of unattended operation. The four gundrilled parts are moved out of the machine by the conveyor, and a six-axis robot then loads two gundrilled parts into the UNR reaming machine.
Kyocera Turning Inserts Provide Fracture, Wear Resistance
Source: Kyocera Precision Tools
Kyocera Precision Tools’ KBN010 high-speed CBN grade is designed to give manufacturers a larger range of hard turning capabilities.
Specialized for high-speed finishing, the mixed structure of micro-grain and coarse-grain CBN provides greater wear resistance and optimal surface finish at higher speeds.
Using new layering techniques, Kyocera has developed the Megacoat Tough coating technology, which combines a highly wear-resistant layer on the surface adhered to high-content CBN used to toughen up the edge. This provides greater fracture resistance when encountering interruptions. The adhesion layer is laminated between the wear-resistance layer and the CBN to reduce layer peeling for longer tool life and stable machining. The tools provide wear resistance and fracture resistance to give the user more flexibility, range, performance and tool life when turning hardened materials.
Swiss Steel Group Grades Provide Increased Hardness
Source: Swiss Steel USA Inc.
Swiss Steel Group has announced its new Ugima-X martensitic and duplex steel product ranges to extend its Ugima-X austenitic grades.
Swiss Steel Group has introduced several new Ugima-X grades at its French subsidiary Ugitech, including Ugima-X 4021 and Ugima-X 4028 in the martensitic steel family. These grades are said to offer increased hardness and superior wear resistance. In addition, the company has added Ugima-X 4460 to its duplex steel product range, which is designed for easy machinability despite duplex steels’ reputation for being difficult to machine.
Starrett Measurement Systems Provide Repeatable Results
Source: The L.S. Starrett Co.
The L.S. Starrett Co.’s optical and video-based measurement systems combine high-resolution images, intuitive software and precision mechanical platforms to provide accurate, repeatable measurement results.
The new Starrett KMR-MX 200 manual vision system features a manually driven X-Y stage motion paired with a 6.5:1 zoom lens and MetLogix Mx200 digital readout in a stacked display format. Well suited for a range of industries, such as medical, aerospace and defense, that require traceable and secure measurement data, operators can perform measurements without Windows-based software or a PC.
Kyzen Solvents Provide Safe Parts Cleaning
Kyzen provides several safe alternative chemistries, including SLV901 and SLV803, to maintain cleaning efficacy in processes that use solvents to alleviate pressures from the current phasedown in the production of materials containing polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
Kyzen SLV901 is a PFAS-free, non-flammable vapor degreasing fluid engineered to clean a variety of oils, greases and additional soils common in precision metal manufacturing, including the aerospace, medical and automotive industries. SLV901 assists in “future-proofing” vapor degreasing and immersion cleaning processes as a safe drop-in replacement for hydrofluoroether and HFC solvents.
Absolute Machine Tools Turning Center Provides Improved Chip Removal
Source: Absolute Machine Tools
Absolute Machine Tools’ Johnford SL-300L-II slant-bed turning center features an extended 40" turn length for longer part turning. Johnford SL Series lathes are constructed with a one-piece Meehanite cast iron base for strength and rigidity, as well as to dissipate heat away from the part, improving dimensional accuracy.
Johnford lathes feature hand-scraped box ways and coats all mating surfaces with Turcite-B for exceptional fit, mobility and precision. The SL-300L-II ballscrews are double-nut type and pretensioned to eliminate thermal growth. The 30-degree slant-bed design enables improved chip removal away from the work envelope and workpiece, a compact footprint, improved operator ergonomics, better part visibility and accessibility to cutting tools.
