Production Machining’s July 2024 news highlights include new company facilities, industry events, sustainability efforts and more.
Big Daishowa recently opened its ninth production plant at its Awaji, Japan, manufacturing facility. The 49,500-square-meter plant is designed to meet production needs and accommodate future growth.
The facility is equipped with 21 multitasking machines and 23 automatic lathes, as well as a VIP center to host visitors and highlight Big Daishowa’s technologies and innovations.
According to the company, the initial production target is 20,000 tools per month, with potential to double this output. Production will focus on BBT and BT toolholders in taper sizes 30-50. Read more about the new facility.
DMG MORI Event Showcases Machining Transformation
DMG MORI USA is showcasing new technologies coming to the United States for the first time at its Chicago Innovation Days 2024 event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, which takes place September 8-12, 2024. The Machining Transformation (MX) framework is the company’s key focus, which encompasses process integration, automation, digital transformation and green transformation.
DMG MORI USA is showcasing its latest advancements at its Chicago Solutions Center, a 21,000-square-foot showroom. With a focus on MX, the exhibition will feature over 25 high-tech machines and automation solutions, catering to sectors such as semiconductor, aerospace and medical. Notable highlights include the premiere of four new machines, including the INH 63, the DMU 40, the DMU 75 MonoBlock 2nd Generation and the NZ DUE Formula.
Index Appoints New National Service Manager
Index Corp. has announced the promotion of Erik Hutchinson to the position of national service manager.
Hutchinson joined Index in September 2020 as a field service engineer and was promoted to East Coast regional service manager after 18 months. Prior to Index, he amassed nearly three decades of experience as a technician and engineer across multiple industries. His career has included stints in the maritime and telecomm industries, as well as over 10 years servicing machine tools.
Allied Machine and Engineering Furthers Sustainability Efforts
Allied Machine and Engineering announces the installation of solar panels at its Deeds Drive facility in Dover, Ohio, to reduce its carbon footprint.
The solar panel project is intended to impact numerous areas of the environment, including the offsetting of an estimated 1,112 tons of CO2 per year, keeping it from being released into the air. According to the company, the solar panel installation is said to provide CO2 consumption equivalent to 25,878 trees. In order to diversify the company’s energy sources, this project can prevent the consumption of 2,345 barrels of oil due to the use of solar energy sources instead of conventional electric generation sources such as coal or natural gas.
In addition to the solar panels, Allied Machine focuses on recycling paper and cardboard as well as steel. Between the two Ohio facilities, 11,756 pounds of paper and 166 gross tons of steel turnings, chips and more have been recycled.
Methods Machine Tools Promotes VP of Engineering and Development
Methods Machine Tools Inc. has promoted James Van Buskirk to vice president of engineering and development.
Van Buskirk, a Methods leader of more than 15 years, expands his role to include a specialized team dedicated to conceptualizing and deploying digital services and solutions. He continues to lead the company’s production and custom, turnkey automation teams.
