Okuma America Corp. announces its plans to construct a new global service and repair facility to open in 2025. The facility is an expansion of the company’s corporate headquarters campus in Charlotte, North Carolina, aiding in servicing customers within the regional and global markets.
The Okuma global service and repair facility is said to encompass 35,000 square feet, housing the company’s technical services and support group, which provides service and support for mechanical and electrical component exchanges, repairs and upgrades, as well as the ability to create replacement components for Okuma legacy technologies. Lyndex-Nikken announces the promotion of Osmar Takeuchi to president. With over a decade of experience at Lyndex-Nikken, the company says Takeuchi brings a wealth of industry knowledge, leadership expertise and commitment to customer success.
Takeuchi previously served as vice president and has been a key member of Lyndex-Nikken’s senior management team. He recently celebrated his 10-year anniversary with the company.
Sumitomo Drive Technologies Receives Metalworking Reshoring Award

Sumitomo Drive Technologies has received the 2024 National Metalworking Reshoring Award. The award was given in recognition of Sumitomo Drive Technologies’ success in bringing manufacturing to the United States through foreign direct investment and to Mexico via nearshoring. The 2024 award was presented at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show by Harry Moser, founder and president of the Reshoring Initiative.
The award honors companies that have effectively brought to North America the manufacture of products, parts or tooling made primarily by metal forming, fabricating, casting or machining, including additive manufacturing.
Dapra Opens Technology and Production Center in Michigan
Dapra Corp. has opened a new Technology and Production Center (TPC) in Macomb, Michigan. This facility supports its business unit with a focus on indexable milling. The transition of its production operations and equipment to the space has been completed and has achieved full operation.
This latest investment expands the company's capabilities to design, test and manufacture high-performance indexable cutting tools, the company says. The facility features a hands-on training facility and houses Dapra’s key production processes. In the future, this facility will also provide improved logistics for Dapra’s channel partners.
ANCA Announces Recipient of the 2024 Female Machinist Award
Stephanie Chrystal, geometric grinding specialist at the Sandvik Coromant Westminster Solid Round Tools Production Unit, is named this year’s winner of the ANCA Female Machinist Award. ANCA says the award celebrates outstanding female machinists’ achievements in the tool and cutter grinding industry, recognizing those who are passionate about their work, dedicated to excellence and committed to advancing the field.
According to ANCA, Chrystal’s journey in the industry has been marked by her innovative problem-solving skills, her commitment to advancing her team and her role in introducing solid round tools to Sandvik Coromant’s Westminster, South Carolina, site. After joining Sandvik Coromant through its acquisition of Precorp, Chrystal has played an instrumental role in building and training a highly skilled team. Her efforts have led to an increase in trained staff, growing from three operators in 2022 to nine in 2024. The company says that, under Chrystal’s guidance, the team not only has met production expectations but has also consistently broken production records month after month.
