Hall of fame honoree and Stratasys chairman, Scott Crump

Move over Gutenberg and make room for Scott Crump. Mr. Crump is now a member of the Minnesota Inventors Hall of Fame for his work developing 3D printing/additive manufacturing. He and his wife, Lisa, founded Stratasys Inc. (headquartered in Minneapolis) in 1989 and pioneered the development of this technology to a point of practical application in manufacturing. Technically, the process is called fused deposition modeling, which uses layers of thermoplastic material to create prototypes and production parts.

Mr. Crump is the sole inductee in the 2014 hall of fame class and joins an elite group of inductees, including 2013 inductee, Seymour Cray, father of the supercomputer and founder of Cray Research. The Minnesota Inventors Hall of Fame was founded in 1976 to honor inventors and to draw attention to the economic and social importance of their contributions to society.
