Manufacturing a Magazine
Insight into PM's editorial calendar.
Ever wonder how we decide what goes into a monthly issue of Production Machining? For our feature topics, we write them down well before the year they appear. We call it our editorial calendar and our 2015 version will be ready in the fall of this year.
While the editorial calendar is designed primarily as a guide for some of our advertisers to plan when they might want to appear in the magazine, it also ensures that we editors give broad coverage of the industry. With that in mind, it occurred to me that as readers, you too might be interested in relevant topics that are coming your way this year.
Each month, we plan two feature topics—one of which will be our cover article. Our March issue will feature a shop story about automation tips using robotics and other material handling systems. In addition, we visited a machine shop that is using combination Swiss-type machines with the option of running with or without a guide bushing.
Below is the part of our editorial calendar with the topics we are planning to cover for the rest of the year.
