We recently attend DMG MORI’s Innovation Days event at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Chicago. Part of the presentation included discussions from Dr. Mori and Thorsten Schmidt (CEO for DMG MORI USA) about the progress of the company’s strategic direct-to-customer approach launched in October 2015.

Since October 2015, the company has expanded rapidly, hiring many U.S. employees to work directly for DMG MORI USA. The total stands at more than 750 employees, with 250 employees assigned to application and service positions.

The company now has direct sales and service in all regions of the U.S. with the exception of four. Those four are New York and Pennsylvania (Bolt Machinery, Inc.) Colorado (Triad Machine Tool Co. Inc.) Utah (New West Machine Tool Co. Inc.) and Arizona (Ellison Machinery Co.). Plans call for a total of 28 technology centers, including the Davis, California, plant, that will be up and running by the end of 2016.

Each of the technology centers have regional directors and area sales managers. Additionally, the 28 technology centers are split into six regions with managing directors assigned for support in each sales region. During the Innovation Days Event, DMG MORI is encouraging its visiting customers to meet with their local direct sales representatives and service teams to discuss manufacturing solutions for today and the future.
