Sonny Leonard Builds 2019 Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes Prize
This year’s engine is 762 cubic inch and 1,400 hp and is even bigger than last year’s custom-built engine.
Renowned engine builder, Sonny Leonard, and the team from Sonny’s World Class Racing (Lynchburg, Virginia), are building another engine for the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes at Performance Racing Industry (PRI).
According to Mr. Leonard, this year’s engine is 762 cubic inch and 1,400 hp and is even bigger than last year’s custom-built 727-cubic inch engine. “I always try to build the best engine I can for every application, and we’re going to build another unique prize for 2019. It’s a special honor to build an engine when the donations we raise help so many children.”
This is the 31st year of the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes, and all proceeds go to Victory Junction, a camp for children living with serious medical conditions founded by NASCAR’s Petty family. Last year’s sweepstakes raised more than $102,000, surpassing the previous record of $59,000.
The engine will include Sonny’s fully in-house ported hemispherical cylinder heads, Sonny’s/Brodix 5.000 B.S. block with 1.000-inch raised cam and special hi-flow water jackets, a Bryant billet crank, Carrillo steel billet rods, and much more.
The winning ticket will be drawn on December 14 near the close of the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis.
