Cubic’s Swiss-Type for Simultaneous Front/Back Machining
PMTS 2023: The SG-20 makes it possible to complete a wide variety of tooling jobs at one time.
Cubic Machinery’s SG-20 is a 7-Axis Swiss-type CNC lathe is a highly rigid, reliable and versatile machine designed for precision, speed and flexibility. It makes it possible to complete a wide variety of tooling jobs at one time. In addition to bar feeding, it can be paired with a dedicated parts feeder or a robot for the flexible feeding of slugs.
The machine can perform highly complex front and back simultaneous machining with a dedicated back tool post and X2, Z2 axis on the back spindle. In combination with a rapid feed rate, SG-20 has substantially cut cycle times. It has a built-in motor rotary guide bushing and a 20-mm bar capacity. The SG-20 is convertible to chucker mode in minutes and features a FANUC control.
A 4-spindle cross tool attachment is standard and with Y-axis can carry out complex operations, such as off-center drilling, off-center tapping, end milling and more. A single- or double-headed collet holder can be mounted at ID tool post (20-mm bore), available for face and back ID working.
Spindle speed synchronization is there for cutoff and transfer of workpiece.
The SG-20 goes further with spindle phase synchronization which enables control of spindle phase angle for features such as R cut-off. High precision spindle can reach maximum speed of 10,000 rpm. Geometric accuracy and surface finish are both much improved and with little noise even at high speed. Maximum machining length is 6.7" (170 mm) per chucking.
