Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives’ Quantum Prime grinding wheels feature a nanocrystalline ceramic grain which is said to offer productivity gains across a range of applications. The company says the grain delivers enhanced high grinding efficiency and part quality, as well as significantly longer wheel life than traditional ceramic grains.
The wheels are said to feature a microfracturing grain that offers sharpness and cutting efficiency which reduces power draw and cycle times, while increasing material removal rates. The grain is free cutting, which combines with advanced bond technologies (such as Norton Vitrium3) to enable the wheels to wear more consistently, thereby improving part quality, geometry and finish even at high material removal rates. The wheels also have a more friable, self-sharpening grain technology, so the grinding wheels stay sharper longer.
Applications for the Quantum Prime include OD, centerless, ID, gear, toolroom, disc, surface, flute and creepfeed grinding and mounted wheels. Key industries for the wheels include automotive, aerospace, energy, primary steel, gear, bearing, cutting tools and metalworking/engineering.
These grinding wheels are made-to-order to meet customer requirements. The grain blends are available in all standard grain combinations, and bonds are organic or Vitrium3 vitrified.
