SCM’s Lightning Rod Tite Offers Maximized Machinability
PMTS 2023: This high-strength precision rod offers material consistency to maximize machinability and anodizing quality.
Service Center Metals (SCM) says its Lightning Rod Tite is an extruded 6061-T6511 precision rod offering the industry’s highest mechanical minimums of 48 ksi ultimate tensile strength and 43 ksi yield strength. Its high strength properties offer material consistency to maximize machinability and anodizing quality.
The tight OD and straightness tolerances makes the rod well suited for high-speed CNCs, lights-out operations and precision saws. The Lightning Rod Tite is used for precision machined parts in a variety of market segments, including electrical, automotive, heavy equipment and military.
The product quality begins with SCM’s melt, billet, bar, machinability production process, which includes stringent control of temperature, chemistry and melt cleanliness. This process fosters consistent billet microstructure, consistent bar grain structure and improved product machinability. It is said the manufacturing process produces better consistency from bar-to-bar and heat-to-heat, resulting in optimum machining performance.
