Sumitomo Turning Grade Improves Chipping Resistance
IMTS 2024: Sumitomo introduces its AC8115P custom steel turning grade, designed to improve chipping resistance.
Sumitomo Electric Carbide Inc. showcases its AC8115P turning grade, designed for high speed and high feed machining of steel. The grade includes a gold insert for improved tool management and a Al2O3 layer that can optimize wear and chipping resistance. The AC8115P is said to provide long and stable tool life in applications involving 5120 steel and 4140 steel, among others.
AC8115P is Sumitomo’s first recommended grade for high-speed turning of low- to high-carbon steel. Other features of the grade include chipping resistance from a hard layer, which can reduce initial wear, and a custom substrate with plastic deformation resistance.
