Expand Machinery’s Genturn-52CS Y2 is a 2" bar capacity, eight-axis Swiss-type turning center, featuring a subspindle as well as dual C and Y axes to enable multiple operations in a single handling. There are 33 tool positions (13 driven) included. Of those, 20 tool stations service the front work and an additional 13 backworking tool positions are standard on the machine.
The 20 front-side tool positions consist of six live-cross tools, three live-axial tools, six turning tool stations, and five ID tool stations, all in a quick-access gang configuration to reduce tool-to-tool time. The counter spindle has 13 tool stations, with four axial driven stations and four live tool holders included, and an additional four driven tools that can be plugged into the subspindle tool block as needed. Nine ID stations are included for backside work: four stations from the dedicated subspindle tool block, and five stations shared from the rear of the main spindle tooling bridge. This tool count enables redundant tooling to be called in after the historical tool wear threshold has been reached.
In addition to dynamic tooling options, the machine also includes heavily ribbed torque-tube box casting, as well as accurate “dead-length” part gripping. The C-axis offers full contouring and 360,000 radial positions (0.001-degree resolution) on both the main and counter spindles. C-axis operations facilitate engraving and milling highly complex part details. The 51-mm (2”) bar capacity spindle runs up to 6000 rpm, with a rapid traverse rate of 1,181 ipm. Standard features also include an oil mist collector, parts catcher, parts conveyor, finished parts collection basket, chip conveyor, wheeled chip cart, subspindle programmable air blast, collet oil flush, finished parts ejector with parts eject confirmation, cutoff confirmation, automatic power-off, air-conditioned electronics cabinet, dual-coolant pumps with dual chip filtration and coolant flow confirmation monitoring. Barloader interface, connector plug and 6-ER-20 collet extensions are also provided, as well as operator and programming training.
