Tsugami Sliding Headstock Lathe for Complex Parts
PMTS 2023: The SS38MH-5AX features a powerful 20,000-rpm, 10-hp tool spindle capable of turning and milling.
The Tsugami America SS38MH-5AX sliding headstock lathe with B-axis is a chucker-convertible, high-performance automatic CNC lathe that offers full 5-axis simultaneous machining with a FANUC 31i-B5 control.
This machine’s backworking overlap with live tool capability enables multiple tools in the cut, and shorter cycle times. This versatile machine weighs in at just over 15,000 lbs and is equipped with a total of 52 tools, including a 40-tool magazine, 10 tools on the back tool post, and an optional 2 tools on the deep hole drill holder. Additionally, there are 5 modular-type live tools on the back tool post for optimum allocation of machining capability.
One of the key features of the SS38MH-5AX is the powerful tool spindle. This 20,000-rpm, 10-hp tool spindle is capable of turning and milling. The SS38MH-5AX is built on a heavy-duty, one-piece cast iron
base with thermally symmetrical construction. A more rigid platform enables higher speeds and feeds, and heavier depth of cut.
This lathe makes it possible to machine the most complex shaped parts from barstock complete, in no time and corresponds to heavy-duty cutting by dual-contact holder using Capto C4. The linear glass scales on the X1, Y1, and Z1 axis slide is provided as standard, for ensured high-accuracy machining and repeatability. It also comes equipped standard with a data server to store the most complex part programs.
