Micron Manufacturing, a precision machining shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan (and PMPA member), was recently featured on Michigan's Stateside radio show. The program highlighted Micron's creative approach to employee management, or non-management, if you will.
Plant Manager Dan Vermeesch says that the company has no mid-level management, with no supervisors or leadmen. Workers create their own schedules to fit the needs of their workload and customers, along with their personal lifestyle. This structure allows employees the flexibility to deal with personal concerns that arise throughout the week with little or no conflicting work obligations.
Check out michiganradio.org for more about the story and to listen to a recording of the broadcast, which includes an interview with Mr. Vermeesch and another employee, Dan Szczepanski.
