GROB Systems’ offers a range of 5-Axis machining applications on its compact G350 Generation 2 Universal Machining Center, which can include advanced automation solutions for increased productivity.

The company says the machining center offers almost limitless possibilities for milling parts made of the most diverse materials. It is also designed to meet the multiple requirements of various sectors, offering a range of applications.

The horizontal spindle position permits the longest possible Z-travel path and optimum chip fall. The unique arrangement of the three linear axes minimizes the distance between the guides and the machining point (TCP), giving the machine considerable stability.

The tunnel concept enables the largest possible component — even in the case of with extremely long tools —to be swiveled and machined within the work area without collision. Three linear and two rotary axes permit 5-sided machining, as well as 5-axis simultaneous interpolation, with a swivel range of 230 degrees in the A-axis and 360 degrees in the B-axis.

The machining center can be equipped with a Siemens 840D sl control, 16,000-rpm spindle, 117-tool holding capacity and a HSK-A63 tool interface. The machine also has a pyramid fixture that can hold three parts at once. Fast and accurate rotary axes can produce an excellent finish on the leading and trailing edge of the blade, and accurate tool-to-tool blending can generate a smooth blade-to-hub blend.

It has the ability to rough and finish on the same machine to produce a complete part in one setup. The finished part can be held by two small tabs, so part removal by hand is fast and easy. With the GROB G350 machine’s part accessibility via its tapered spindle nose and positive angle reaching capability, challenging features can easily be reached.

The G350 machining center’s horizontal spindle design and multiple coolant functions will also prevent the recutting of chips during the machining of a pocket feature.
