ETP Transmission’s Hydro-Fix Swiss is a hydraulic, high-precision clamping sleeve for Swiss-type lathes. The company says it is well suited for static front and back drilling operations, offering an improved surface quality as well as extended tool life.

The clamping unit enables users to drill larger and much deeper holes versus ER collets or special deep hole attachments. Manufacturers can also use other holemaking tools such as boring bars, reamers, form tools and indexable tools — that often have larger shanks.

Along with quicker and safer tool changes, ETP uses one activation screw to absorb and reduce tool vibrations, improve surface finish and increase the ability to hold tight part tolerances.

With the one screw fix system it is quick and easy to handle. Precision hydraulic tool centering is achieved and therefore the tool life and setup time is improved.

“What’s so great, is that this product is available in several designs and sizes to fit different machines,” says Mark Werner, ETP sales manager. “We are continually expanding our offering based on our customer’s needs and feedback. Eliminate some of those hard to change ER collet chucks today.”

The device has one holder that can handle up to 26 different shank sizes (with reducing sleeves). It is designed for the perfect centering of tool. The Hydro-Fix Swiss can drill larger and use larger tool shanks than ERs, and machines deeper on front working stations.

According to the company, the device reduces cycle times by eliminating travel to deep hole stations. Users can also benefit from safer, easier and quicker changes versus ER collets. It also offers higher accuracy than typical ERs. Users can eliminate touch-offs with built-in backstops as well as reduce tool change times and setups; eliminate vibrations; and improve surface finishes. The clamping units are available in front and back activation styles.
