The Hurco BX40Ui five-axis CNC double-column machining center, with trunnion table mounted along the Y-axis, is said to combine performance and flexibility. The ladder structure and double-column design provide rigidity and support to the head casting. The bridge structure is isolated from part weight and operates in a stable and predictable manner, according to the company. Cutting feed rates are said to be achieved with high-speed motion technology called UltiMotion that simultaneously reduces cycle times by as much as 30 percent and delivers on surface finish quality.

According to the company, the control system supports multiple programming methods: conversational for five-sided programming with no CAM system needed; NC for simultaneous five-axis; and a company-specific feature called NC/Conversational Merge that optimizes efficiency. The company’s control feature called 3D Import is especially useful for the company’s five-axis machines because the control software creates transform planes automatically for five-sided programming that is said to eliminate data entry requirements.

UltiMotion is the motion control system that determines the trajectory to run the tool, provides consistent programmed feed rates and reduces cycle time. With this technology, cornering velocity is said to be 2.5x faster than other motion and machine jerk is reduced by half. It includes as many as 10,000 blocks of dynamic look ahead and adapts as required by the tool path.
