JTM Products line of full synthetic metalworking coolants, including SynMax, are said to benefit from a different chemistry to exceed the performance of semi-synthetic fluids but without oil. According to the company, the result for operators is maximized machining output yielding more parts per hour while machining steel, aluminum and difficult to machine alloys.

Jennifer Lunn, senior chemist, says that the company’s field trials have proved that a full synthetic can be used to replace a high oil product without sacrificing lubrication. She even claims that lubrication is improved.

The coolants are designed to cut aluminum as efficiently as steel, making them especially useful for multi-metal shops. They are said to eliminate staining of sensitive metals as well as surface and vapor phase corrosion. Parts and machine tools remain clean, with a light oil-like film to lubricate surfaces. According to the company, the coolants are a good choice for difficult to machine alloys, and wherever precision tolerance and high finishes are required. Additionally, they are said to have a positive effect on cycle time and tool life. The three coolants available also meet Boeing BAC 5008 Revision U for steel, aluminum and titanium and are Reach compliant.
